As hunters ourselves we know the value of a great pair of perfectly fitting gloves. We like them thin and skintight. Thin enough and tight enough that we can pick up a dime. Our Super Shooter’s Gloves were designed with a longer wrist tube to allow you to tuck them under the cuffs of your coat or shooting shirt to protect your wrists from thorns and other “stickies.” The back side of the glove is perforated to dissipate heat. And because the glove is made inside out, all working area seams are on the inside of the glove for longer wear and fumble free performance in the field. #WB-SLC Sportsman's Lamp Coasters
Let’s face it, no sportsman or sportswoman wants to see a frilly doily under a table lamp in the trophy room. You know...the lacy kind your grandmother used under the candy dish? The doily’s purpose of course, was to protect furniture.
Good idea but just not the “look” you want.
Walden & Bork has made gameskin drink coasters for customers for years. We got to thinking, “Why not bring the hunter’s ‘look’ to every room in the house?” (Granted, it was a late Friday night idea). Transferring the coaster concept to make larger sized lamp coasters just might work and we thought it might appeal to like-minded customers.
Following experimentation and prototyping with leftover gameskin scrap we made a set for every room in the house. They look really cool and they’re functional! Plus, we used up a lot of small and odd shaped pieces of both hair-on and hair-off scrap leather.
Sizing is up to you. We made our prototypes 1” wider all around the lamps. In retrospect, 1-1/2” to 2” wider than the actual footprint of the lamps would have been ideal. Shapes are also
up to you. Sportsman’s Lamp Coasters can be made square, rectangular, round, triangular, hexagonal, oval, octagonal, pentagonal. Your choice. Be creative! Each is hand cut and custom made to your specifications.
Ordering: On a white sheet of paper, merely trace around the base and shapes of your lamps. Indicate the quantity of each to be made...in which species of leather....size and the shape you would like to order and then send us your tracings and enough gameskin scrap to make your Lamp Coasters. We will back up your gameskin with a heavy black cowhide which makes for a sturdy coaster. Be sure to tell us how much outside-of-the lamp width you would prefer, 1-1/2” or 2”, or larger if desired. Minimum size recommended is 7”.

#WB-412 Game Skin "Roughy" Wall Hanging
Ok...sooner or later you will...as we have...had a lot of different products made from your game skin leather, (if you hunt enough!). But then the question arises: "What am I to do with all of these small odd shaped pieces of game skin scrap?" We were faced with that very dilemma. Not long ago I accompanied my sister, (who has a fancy degree in textiles and fashion design), to a quilting shop in a small North Dakota town. As she went about her business, I was looking around the quaint little shop when I spotted a strange looking quilt on the wall and asked my sister, "What is that?" I was told it was called a "Roughy Quilt." I told her, "I'll bet we could do the same thing...only better...with game skin scrap." Upon returning to the office, out came a couple boxes of my own game skin scrap leather and hides---hair on, hair off, Zebra tails, pieces with bullet holes, knife holes, natural marks. We proceeded to lay out the first Walden & Bork "Roughy" Wallhanging. As we went through the scrap my sister asked, "What kind of leather is this?" "Where did you kill this animal?" As I watched what was taking shape before my eyes, from our combined efforts, I realized that laying there on the floor of my office were the memories of 50-plus years of hunting! My sister then informed me that the pieces of leather didn't have to be round or square, but to "Just sew them together as they are in true roughy fashion. One of our leather craftsman "got" the concept. Her exemplary work is displayed on this "Roughy" Wallhanging...now prominently displayed in one of my guest rooms. The first rule in the art of "Roughy" wallhangings is...there are no rules! Any size, any shape will do. This one measures 48" long by 28" wide and hangs on a very simple black wrought iron hanger.
This wallhanging cost about $750.00 to complete. The wrought hanger, only about $70.00.

NOTE: Of all of the things made from my game skin leather, wallets, briefcases, shoes, furniture, pillows, coasters, notebooks, gloves...this piece brings back the memories of all of my hunts over the past 50 years with far greater impact and clarity than anything we have ever made---remembering the Waterbuck in South Africa, the archery Alligator in Louisiana, the Elk in Southwest Colorado, the Cape Buffalo in Botswana, the archery Impala and Sable in Zimbabwe, the Hartebeest in Namibia, the Whitetail Deer in Wisconsin---all great memories to cherish forever! |

 Strange Request Satisfied
We occasionally receive some strange requests for custom made items. This one tops the list. A customer of Walden & Bork's from Louisiana asked if we could cover his custom made refuse container lid in alligator. The customer did not have enough hide to cover the entire lid so we did the best we could with what we had. We applied alligator hornback scrap to the sides and top of his cedar refuse container lid using furniture makers tacks. The final product was quite stunning actually. It took on the look of a fine piece of leather furniture. This, for our customer's hunting cabin.
